Membership Drive and Exclusive CD

Hey folks. 91.7 KOOP FM is currently in the midst of the spring membership drive, our on-air fundraising campaign. Without the support we get from our listeners during these drives, KOOP would not be able to stay on the air. So without your donations, we would not have a show. Due to the attack on KOOP earlier in the year, this might be our most important drive ever.

To try and sweeten the deal and encourage donations, David and I have cooked up a special donation premium for people who pledge during our show. In addition to the donation premiums that KOOP is already offering, everyone who pledges at least $25 dollars during our show will get a CD featuring exclusive material from myself and David; including a phone call we did on our pilot show and comedy bits recorded just for this premium.

Goodbye to the fastest 30 minutes in radio!

And hello to the fastest 45 minutes in radio! That’s right, the Mascot Wedding show with David and Mac is expanding by 50%. We will now be 45 minutes long.

Slappy Pinchbottom, programmer of “The Odd Preoccupation” which follows our show on the New Power Thursday line-up, has conceded 15 minutes of his show so he can spend more time on other projects. Will the rest of KOOP follow suit, tumbling like a trail of luxurious dominoes to the steel curtain influence of Mascot Wedding? Probably.

Thanks to Slappy for the extra time and check us out today at 3PM to see how we use it.

Mascot Wedding’s Die Hard wins Second Place in Rewind Kindly Filmmaking Frenzy!

It’s my pleasure to announce that our entry in the Alamo Drafthouse’s Rewind Kindly Filmmaking Frenzy, Die Hard, emerged from over 150 entries to take the second place jury prize last Thursday.

From the Alamo’s press release:

Check out (and vote for) 5-minute, low-budget Die Hard!

I’ve posted this on every other internet touchpoint I have, I’m not sure why I haven’t posted this here on the homebase. Mascot Wedding Productions has created an entry for the Drafthouse’s new video competition, Rewind Kindly. Inspired by the new Michel Gondry film, Be Kind Rewind, teams must remake a popular Hollywood movie in the same homemade “swede” style in 5 minutes.

Our entry, Die Hard, can be seen here.

After you view the video, please register a user account and vote for us. Registering an account is fast and spam-free and we would really appreciate your vote. Thanks!

On the Air?

So last week, during our triumphant return to the airwaves, our station’s signal went off the air – right in the middle of our show. So we spent the first 15 minutes of the show trumpeting our return and boasting about how no one can touch the Mascot Wedding show and then we spent the last 15 minutes pumping out dead air. We didn’t know this of course. We were yukkin’ it up like nothing was wrong. The entire thing got recorded and will be posted as a podcast sometime this weekend.

New show this afternoon. Hopefully our electromagnetic hubris won’t doom us two weeks in a row.

Mascot Wedding Back on the Air!

The Mascot Wedding show will return to the airwaves this Thursday. We’ve been off the air for four weeks due to a fire that destroyed the KOOP studio. We’ll be broadcasting out of a temporary studio graciously donated for KOOP’s use by Entercom Communications. I’m not sure of the recording options we have at the new studio (I’m going to go check it out tonight) so I don’t know at this time if the podcast will be affected. I do know that after four weeks I’m anxious to get back and start droppin’ some LOLs and taking your calls.

Once again, you can listen to the Mascot Wedding show with David and Mac, every Thursday from 3-3:30 PM CST, 91.7 FM Austin, Streaming world wide at koop.org.

Fire Hits KOOP, Mascot Wedding Off the Air

It’s true. 91.7 KOOP, the beloved home of the Mascot Wedding show, has been forced off the air due to damage caused by a fire. This is the third fire in as many years, but the first at our awesome new studio (which we relocated to because of the other fires). I don’t have any more details about the fire (except that no one was hurt), but I will say that KOOP is hard at work on a contingency plan and hopefully we’ll be back on the air very soon. So, no new shows until further notice. In the meantime, we still have three more podcasts to post, so be on the look out for those. Thanks.

Last weekend for Road House + Radio News

The Road House shows with Master Pancake have been going really well. Last week I think we had the best crowd we’ve ever had. David almost got carried out of the theater on the joyful crowd’s shoulders on at least three separate occasions. The show has come a long way from opening weekend when I was so so sick. So SICK. I almost threw up from pain after making a joke about the Kool-Aid man. What’s that? That wasn’t from pain? That joke’s just no good? Certainly there were better ways for you to tell me that.

I’m feeling better and the show’s going great and this is your last chance to see it. We got four shows this weekend, two on Friday night, two Saturday night. If you saw our Conan show, this show blows that one out of the water. Blows it, I say! Plus it’s not as long. So folks interested in the midnight shows, I can confidently say you will be home long before the police start spraying drunks with a fire hose. Tickets here. All shows are at the glorious new downtown Alamo Ritz theater.

Radio news! The Mascot Wedding show with Mac and David is rolling along. You can hear us every Thursday from 3-3:30pm (that’s central standard, son) on 91.7 FM KOOP Austin or streaming world wide at www.koop.org. And starting next week, we should have our podcast up and running, at which point we’ll hopefully spruce up the page to cater to the radio show a little more.

So, your to-do list: go see Master Pancake Theater’s Road House and check back here next week for podcast updates.

More Good News: Mascot Wedding (well, Master Pancake FEATURING Mascot Wedding) takes on Road House!

November is shaping up to be a very good month for us at Mascot Wedding headquarters. In addition to the radio show (starting November 8, plan your listening parties accordingly), we’ve also just been asked to join forces with Master Pancake Theater for another month of shows. The even better news is, this time you won’t have to politely smile through Conan the Barbarian. This time we’re pitching in for the mother of all “these jokes write themselves” movies: Road House! That’s right, Patrick Swayze’s finest hour (depressing as that may be) is being put in front of the Master Pancake firing squad all November at (wait for it…) the new Alamo Downtown at The Ritz! That means not only will you get to hear us completely fall over ourselves trying to deliver jokes as fast as they come to mind (come on, have you seen the movie??), you’ll get to see it in the brand new, peeing my pants with anticipation, Drafthouse on 6th Street.* Fist pump!
