Mascot Wedding’s Die Hard wins Second Place in Rewind Kindly Filmmaking Frenzy!

It’s my pleasure to announce that our entry in the Alamo Drafthouse’s Rewind Kindly Filmmaking Frenzy, Die Hard, emerged from over 150 entries to take the second place jury prize last Thursday.

From the Alamo’s press release:

Austin, TX, February 22, 2008: Last night at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz Theater, the top fifteen films (determined by online voting at www.filmmakingfrenzy.com) of over 150 submitted into the REWIND KINDLY Filmmaking Frenzy competition were screened for a packed house and a panel of judges. Inspired by Michel Gondry’s film BE KIND REWIND (released today), the AMD and DELL sponsored competition asked teams to produce an up-to-six minute, low-budget remake of any Hollywood film.

Second prize was awarded to team Mascot Wedding for their rendition of the 1988 quintessential action flick Die Hard. With upbeat pacing and cameo performances by some of the biggest names in Austin comedy, this comic send-up was both an audience and jury favorite.

Ximena Estrada, Dave Youmans and I were on hand to accept the award. Long Le, who was home sick, had to settle for a shout out sent straight to the heavens and then back down to Long.

Mascot Wedding would like to thank everyone who voted us in the top 15 that enabled us to be in the final round (but next time could you make it top ten, folks? I was sweating this one a little bit).

We would also like to congratulate the first place team Black Magic Rollercoaster and the audience award winner, team Media Licks.

We send out mad props to Ben Bartley and his team for their awesome and amazing Top Gun entry

We would also like to thank everyone who helped us make the short; Doug Hanshaw, David Jara, John Erler, Joe Parsons, Jason Harrison, Lauren Malone, John Alexander, and Mat Walters.

I would personally like to congratulate Ximena, Dave and Long for their enthusiasm and effort.
